Description
Couch lawn seed is a warm-season grass perfectly suited to the Australian climate and widely used on golf courses and suburban lawns. Exceptionally hardy, it has an extensive root system that provides outstanding drought resilience. Its runners spread both above and below ground, allowing it to self-repair quickly and fill bare patches without the need for reseeding. Easy to maintain and cost-effective, Couch requires minimal expertise for upkeep. It becomes dormant and may lose colour in winter, particularly in subtropical regions, but can be over sown with a Perennial Ryegrass to maintain year-round coverage and protect the turf from heavy traffic during dormancy. It is one of the most popular grasses in Australia due to its tolerance and high performance in the harsh Australian conditions.
Agronomic Information:
- New lawn sowing rate 1kg per 100 m2
- Over-seeding rate 1kg per 200m2
- Tolerates alkaline soil conditions but performs best in soils with moderate acidity pH 5.8-7
- Germination 7-10 days (climate dependent) with full germination 10-21 days. Full coverage gained within 4-6 weeks again dependent on season.
- Optimal planting time is spring to late summer providing water is available. Ensure soil temps consistently above 18 degrees.
- Not shade tolerant prefers full sun. It can lose it’s colour and become dormant over winter particularly when exposed to frost.
- If planting in areas of drought, Couch can go into summer dormancy however will green up as soon as exposed to rainfall with an intact surface.
- Ideal for use in: residential lawns, golf courses both on the tee and fairways, sporting grounds, commercial landscapes, horse arenas and in pastures.
- Coated with 100% lime for ease of sowing
