While racing can be frustrating and challenging at times, Bunbury’s Jake Fisher was reminded of this over the weekend. In motorsport, it’s about how a competitor bounces back to their true form, and Jake showed just that.

On Saturday, the WA Excel Cup entered its penultimate round at Collie Motorplex. After a strong qualifying round that placed him 5th on the grid for his first race, the young driver was quickly tested by the demands of competitive racing.

A shaky start saw him off into the dirt, forcing him to recover and regain control. By the time he re-entered the track, he had fallen back to 16th place. But determination is often called upon in moments like this, and to his credit, Jake worked diligently through the field to finish in 8th place—a strong recovery that secured him that spot on the grid for race two.

A solid start in race two saw him push his way into 6th place, applying pressure to the cars ahead in 4th and 5th. However, a racing incident dropped him back, leaving him to finish 14th with some slight damage to his car. This result set him up for a 10th place start in the final race of the day.

Once again, Jake rose to the challenge. Each lap presented obstacles, but he kept moving forward, making up four places to cross the line in 6th, well inside the top ten. After a tough day, he was happy with the result.

“I’ve learned a lot today,” he said. “At least we’re still in the hunt in both the Rookie Championship and Trophy Class.”

With a fair break until the next round in October, Jake is already preparing for the season’s finale.

“I’m planning to spend a fair bit of time on the new simulator I’ve bought, which will help me develop more,” he explained. “I’m looking forward to closing out my first year on a high.”

It was a weekend of challenges, lessons, and growth—a true step forward in his racing journey. For Jake Fisher, every lap is another stride toward becoming better in every sense.
