It was a day to remember for Bunbury’s Jake Fisher as the final round of the WA Excel Cup took place at Wanneroo Raceway on Saturday. As the same as last round, Fisher qualified strongly in 5th place and his first race of the day was nothing short of outstanding, pushing the car from P4 to finish in 2nd place behind championship leader Carlos Ambrosio. His two other races were quality to watch and his finishes inside the top three podium positions signified how far he has come in just under 12 months of road racing.

A final placing of 2nd in the rookie championship (after missing the first round of the season) and an amazing 6th place overall out of 24 cars has seen Fisher’s name be mentioned around the circles, for his maiden year. He was appreciative of his 2025 campaign overall and was also excited for what 2026 would bring him.

“I’m stoked to finish where I have,” he said. “I’ve really learned a lot this year and this is reward for my efforts.” Asked if he was disappointed, missing out on the Rookie Championship by a mere four points? “Well I did miss the first round this year, so that probably didn’t help me,” he said. “But I still have a lot of room for improvement as well, so all good.”

This was the second podium finish for the youngster in 2025. Fisher is looking at a range of options for 2026 including some Eastern States rounds of the Excel Cup series in Queensland and Victoria. Other opportunities are bound to surface and he is keen to gain more experience wherever he can. After such a great year, he wants to push forward and go as high as he can. With his determination at a peak, it’s only natural his success and achievement will grow as time goes on.
