Another weekend, another race track for young gun, Jake Fisher, as he stepped up to the plate at Collie Speedway on Saturday night for the first round of the KJB Race Parts Junior Sedan Challenge.
With a break in his JSRA commitments, Fisher was keen to impress for the first round of the series, with a strong 16 car field in attendance. It was a tough night in some cases for him but he shone through when it counted, under some pressure.
With two strong results in his heat races, being a second and a win, the introduction of a pole shuffle added a little spice into the mix making for some great driving. A third place result would give him a third place start on the A Main feature of the night.
On the green lights, both Fisher and fellow rival, Jett Downs sped away and were almost a quarter of a lap in front of the field when a stoppage caused the yellow lights to come on. On the restart there was contact on Fisher causing damage to the number 12 car.
With further damage a few laps later, causing a front left tyre to rb on the guard, Fisher had no choice but to nurse the car home without causing any further damage, while also doing a great job in preserving a podium place in the race. A third place finish saw him home.
While this was disappointing in some cases, it was also a case for appreciating the situation and at least a podium result was achieved. Fisher is also understanding of the fact that the speedway game is not easy and it does give you your share of ups and downs, sometimes on a week to week basis.
All eyes turn to this weeks JSRA round at Bunbury Speedway with a massive field lining up for the clash. Fisher will have the race face back on this weekend as his series standing remains a priority heading into the big part of the season in the New Year.
While keen to keep achieving in his own right, the bigger prize awaits the young sharp shooter as he looks to a very bright future that lies ahead for him.
