Learning his way…and fast, is the motto for Bunbury based, Jake Fisher with more success at the WA Excel Cup held at Collie Motorplex on Sunday.
After another scintillating qualifying session, seeing him take 7th place on the time sheets, he was more than confident in pushing for a top five result in the first race.
A strong start saw him on the lead pack after the first lap and he continued to push his case, making his way to 6th place. Feeling he had more to give he pushed his car to the limit, soon tailing 5th place driver which he made a bold move and he got his well earned reward, taking 5th in the race.
The second race saw a very competitive start by most drivers and Fisher held his own until competition form behind saw him lose a couple of spots and finish in 6th.
The third race was exciting and perhaps the best of the day, with Fisher pressing hard early. Passing one car early to be in 5th, he was pressing his case for 4th until an issue with the gear shift saw him lose ground. Finishing in 13th place he was a little disappointed but also realized that in motorsport, somethings are entirely out of ones control and it was just one of those things that happened.
“I was pretty happy with my top five placing in the first race,” he said. “The car was great all day and I am starting to understand what it does and changes make a difference as well, so yeah, pretty happy.”
He now has some mechanical work to do on his car before the next round at Wanneroo raceway at the end of June and is relishing his time in the seat.
He is also keen to learn a lot more and intends to lean on some better known personalities in the motorsport industry in the coming weeks.
More details to come in this space as details are confirmed on where Jake intends to head towards in his motorsport career.
