Description
Brooklawn is a top-performing, high-value Kentucky bluegrass variety prized for blends and sod production. This compact Shamrock type features a rich dark green colour, fast spring green-up, and strong disease resistance. It establishes quickly with aggressive rhizome growth, providing excellent density, sod strength, and wear tolerance. Grasses with strong rhizome (underground stem) or stolon (above-ground runner) growth — like Kentucky bluegrass — tend to have excellent sod strength, making them ideal for sod farms and high-traffic turf areas. Brooklawn shows very good drought tolerance, seeding vigour, and shade performance. Hardy in cold climates like the Great Southern and adaptable to warmer regions, Brooklawn creates durable, attractive lawns that resist wear when properly maintained. Usually sown from seed, it spreads by underground runners and is able to self-repair if damaged.
Agronomic Information:
- Sow seed in spring or autumn when soil temps are between 15 and 25 degrees
- Sow at 2kg per 100 m2
- Germination occurs between 3 – 4 weeks
- Recommend mowing at a cutting height of 3-5cm
- Apply fertilizer in spring and early autumn but not in summer when grass is under high temperature stress.
- Resistant to powdery mildew and crown rust
