Description
Tall Wheat Grass is a perennial grass that grows in tussocks. Widely planted in WA in salt land country for ground covers and feed value. Even though it grows well in salt country, it is not tolerant to waterlogging. This highly productive plant has good digestibility if kept vegetative and leafy. If this plant is allowed to set seed, the nutritious quality diminishes and becomes less palatable. Tall Wheat Grass can reduce topsoil salinity by reducing the rise of salts to the surface. It’s important to keep Tall Wheat Grass pastures short and vegetative to maximise feed value.

- Suited to rainfall areas 400mm – 600mm
- Established plants tolerate hard grazing
- Frost tolerant and recovers well after frost damage
- Sowing Rate 15-20kg/ha standalone
- Companions well with Balansa Paradana, Strawberry Clover, Messina Clover and Tall Fescue providing salinity not too high. A recommended mix would be 10kg TWG, 2kg Fescue, 2kg Lucerne and 4kg Clover.

- Managing Tall Wheat Grass can be difficult if left, so keep grazed and managed. If it becomes out of control, slash or burn it.
